connection through craft

ITALY

I grew up in the countryside of Sweden and spent most of my time at my parent’s farmhouse in Bergslagen. It’s an old farmstead that has been in our family for almost 200 years. A peaceful place where time moves slowly and weather set the agenda for the day. Either renovating a part of the house or mending some kind of tool or machine.

To be honest, not always the funniest place when you are 10 years old. But now, 40 years later, I think this easy pace and basic lifestyle made me see and appreciate many things in life. Especially to see the attention and passion worked into any crafted object.

And in this fast consuming world I come back even more to my roots. To surround my self with solid things that actually means something to me. That’s the basic Idea of Råwerk. To create artwork that has a meaning to me, and by doing that, hopefully share my passion with you.

Last week I was traveling in the Italian Alps, skiing and doing photography work. Normally it’s my passion for skiing that brings me to the mountains experiencing adventures with my friends. But this time I felt even more connected than before. Then I realized it hasn’t just been the world of skiing and the humble respect for the mountains. It’s the aura of the solid and unconditionally craft found everywhere. All the hours they spent in crafting a single stone house instant reviled in a split of second story. Like an injection of trust and calmness.

Seeing all this and thinking of what I want to create with Råwerk made me full of inspiration.
Now sketching in my book…
